Every Friday at 1pm, after the meal at 12 Baskets, the writers of the Moonlight Cheese Alliance gather under the tree in the garden to write, creatively and collectively. We share a common prompt and each create a piece. Many of us read our work aloud to the group and wonder at the different directions and uncanny intersections of our imaginations (and hearts!) Moonlight Cheese Alliance (MCA) is a writing collective founded in the community of Asheville Poverty Intitiative's 12 Baskets Cafe and Community Center. We embrace the mission of API to dismantle stereotypes and reduce fear through telling stories across socio-economic differences as the way to build a beloved community that celebrates abundance, mutuality and equity
Our mission as a writing collective is to:
create an all-inclusive space and place for creative expression, offer an opportunity to create and share original work within community, and through our publications, to give voice to, honor, celebrate and amplify the experiences and imaginations of writers and artists who are often excluded from mainstream cultural outlets.
